Melinda’s Brew: I Give You The One & Only, The Enchanting BB-8

Melinda's Brew

What is white and orange with a touch of silver and black, rather roly-poly, and resembles a figure 8? [Like you need me to answer that question for you. 😉 ] That just happens to be the character who stole the show when The Force Awakens hit movie screens a couple of years ago – BB-8, who happens to be my favorite character from the new trilogy of Star Wars films. Off and on over the past year and a half, I’ve been naming my favorite characters from TFA and explaining why they have struck a chord with me, and now that the next installment is set to hit theaters in a mere two weeks [can you feel the electric excitement coursing through the air? I can!], it is only fitting that I reveal who caught my eye and touched my heart most of all.

At long last! The latest batch of Star Wars Forces of Destiny shorts are here. As with the previous collection, this collection of shorts features a mix of old and new. Four of the shorts aired over the summer: “The Imposter Inside,” “Beasts of Echo Base,” “BB-8 Bandits,” and “The Padawan Path.” They are joined by four new shorts, with wrap-arounds by our storyteller, Maz Kanata — this time cooking up some delicious stew to go with her tea. And it looks like she’s made a new friend, too!

Star Wars and the Name Game

Jay’s Galactic Espressionslandscape-1450794162-movies-starwars-poe-finn-1

“I call everyone ‘Darling’, because I can’t remember their names.”
-Zsa Zsa Gabor

What’s in a name?

They’re just a bunch of letters that form words, right? Actually, names are so incredibly powerful, that the concept of “naming” has been an integral part of every culture, religion and belief system around the world. Among everything: from objects to people…pets to phenomena, names are as influential as they are immortal.

If you’ve been a faithful reader of my blogs (and I hope you have been), you may be thinking that this subject sounds familiar to you. You’re correct: I spoke about this topic in one of my very first blog entries for Coffee With Kenobi. However, because I’m so enamored with the psyche, power, and philosophy of names in general, I wanted to revisit some new ideas and personal revelations I’ve had since the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as some other personal a-ha moments, as represented at various points in the Star Wars saga.

The Garbage Will Do: A Diegetic Look at the Millennium Falcon

#starwarscanon – The Garbage Will Do: A Diegetic Look at the Millennium Falcon

The legendary Millennium Falcon, an element of the Star Wars narrative that is more a character than she is an object. Over the many stories in the Star Wars canon, the Falcon has received mixed reviews from various characters.  Like other characters in the Star Wars saga, the Falcon undergoes character development over the course of the saga, as reflected through others expressing their opinions of the old Corellian YT-1300 freighter.

Before we go much further, let me take a moment to define diegetic. Diegetic is a term used to identify something that is “in universe” or perceived by the characters in the story itself.  We are specifically looking at how other characters view the Falcon, not how readers or fans of Star Wars see the Falcon.  Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let us take a diegetic look at the Millennium Falcon throughout the Star Wars canon.
