With convention season in full bloom this spring I decided for this month’s blog to compare the two conventions I attended in April: Star Wars Celebration Orlando and the Utah Dental Association Convention. Both conventions are filled with panels and vendors, both attract geeks from around the world, and at both I was able to spend time with people that I appreciate more than I can say. Let’s break them down and see which wins the tale of the tape.
Earlier this month the Star Wars fandom descended upon Orlando, Florida for the latest Star Wars Celebration. Besides new film releases, Celebration’s have quickly become the next biggest event in the Star Wars calendar. This year’s convention certainly lived up to the hype (even with some hiccups along the way). While there were plenty of announcements, reveals, trailers, and events, the most important thing, to me at least, were the people.

Note: Our most sincere apologies for the audio during our conversation with Amy Ratcliffe. This is through no fault of Ms. Ratcliffe, and is completely due to an error in production; we hope you will bear with us, as Amy has some awesome things to say!
The Road to Celebration concludes as Coffee With Kenobi‘s Dan Z & Cory Clubb talk with Behind-The-Scenes Stage Host Amy Ratcliffe, as they give their Top Five panel recommendations. They also discuss the return of Hayden Christensen, look at the Celebration store exclusives, and provide a few essential reminders. With one week to go, Dan and Cory discuss:
We’re just a few short weeks away from Celebration Orlando!!! Can you feel it? I can feel it. It feels….good. This will be my second Celebration, and it will be VERY hard to top the experience I had in Anaheim in 2015. It was, quite honestly, one of the best times I have ever had in my life. Meeting friends IRL for the first time, making new friends that I’m going to get to see again, eating good food, and being immersed in Star Wars for 4 days was kind of my own version of Heaven. Can I expect the same sort of thrill this time out? Probably not. But that’s ok…

More importantly, we are making an impact for the Make-A-Wish foundation. More information on Make-A-Wish follows:
Celebration is over.
I was unable to go this year but through StarWars.com’s live stream and all the great coverage from Dan, Cory, and my fellow bloggers here, I definitely felt like I was there. So I want to take this quick moment to thank my CWK family as well as everyone at StarWars.com who ran the live stream for all of their coverage! It was definitely the next best thing to being there in person!
With that said, let us turn our eyes to Star Wars next big event: Star Wars Weekends 2015!
We are just weeks away from opening weekend and this promises to be an incredible year! With an impressive guest list covering the movies to Rebels and The Clone Wars; I know my schedule will be busy for sure. With special guests like Ian McDiarmid and Frank Oz in the mix as well, we are looking at a couple of record-setting weekends when it comes to attendance like we had last year with Mark Hamill.
The Celebration Anaheim Podcasting stage is here! Joining us on the live show is John “Dak” Morton, as we discuss our topic for the Podcasting stage, the Jedi and Redemption, and the premiere of The Force Awakens second teaser trailer. This is the podcast you’re looking for!
