Marvel is planning several launch parties ahead of the Jan. 14 release of the first issue of Star Wars No. 1, including not just parties at comic shops, but also more variant covers, buttons and even cake toppers.

Artists featured include Sara Pichelli, John Tyler Christopher and Bob McLeod, who worked on Marvel’s 1977-1986 Star Wars series.

Matt Moore has been perpetrating journalism since 1985, reveling in Star Wars since 1977 and reading comics since 1974.

I love the idea of the variant covers, Matt. 🙂 While I don’t purchase EVERY cover just to have them all (not many of us have bottomless pockets 😉 ), it gives fans choices. Which I like. 🙂 I’ll have to look into whether any of the comic stores in my area (there are only 2) are having launch parties. It may be a fun way to spend an evening/afternoon! 🙂
