Cory Clubb’s Uncanny Day Available Now!

If you’ve been listening to our show, you know that co-host, Cory Clubb’s book, Uncanny Day is available for purchase now, via Amazon.com.  From Amazon.com:

Nolan Day can read your mind. For him, trading classmates secrets for quick cash is simple, it’s the whispering voices and nose bleeds that make it difficult. Things get worse when his latest client decides to step into oncoming traffic. Trying to unravel the mystery of why and right his mistakes, Nolan discovers a darkness lingering inside the mind that threatens human existence, and forces him to confront his own broken past. Nolan’s only choice is to ask a girl who’s out to expose his secret and his dishonest foster brother for help. Although when thoughts become deadly who do you trust?

Early reviews state:

I had the pleasure of reading the advanced readers copy of Uncanny Day, and was very impressed with Cory’s debut novel. The main character is easily likable, the telepathy uniquely done, the mystery engaging and the romantic subplot a strong hook into character empathy. All of these factors combined to make this a fast paced and enjoyable read. I often say that YA is not my thing, but Clubb uses all of the above elements to show me that a good story is a good story, no matter the genre. Nolan Day’s telepathy allows him to see into people’s minds as if they were rooms or places with key pieces of information that he needs to unravel the mystery. This uniquely done magical system engages the reader to remember clues to a case that goes from teenage gossip to the possible deaths of those close to Nolan. His ability and charisma with his best friend and crush has series potential, and reminds me of my favorite show, Castle, but if Rick and Kate were best friends in High School–and of course you added telepathy to Rick’s many quirks.

This thought-provoking, exciting new YA novel is a must read, sure to delight fans of Young Adult literature, science-fiction, or anyone with a thirst for more exciting stories.  Purchase Uncanny Day today!

Star Wars Has Made Its Navajo Language Debut! (UPDATED)

star-wars-blu-ray1

This story is so cool! A Navajo language version of “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” has made its debut at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, AZ. It is the first major motion picture to be dubbed entirely in the Navajo language, and it is being hailed as a major milestone in preserving the language for future generations.

Auditions were held in New Mexico earlier this year, and those chosen used a combination of formal and informal Navajo to properly convey the humor and emotions inherent in the dialogue.

For some, this was the first time they were able to see Star Wars without the need to have everything explained. What an awesome experience that must have been!

Read more and see video from the premiere – including hearing C-3PO and Vader dubbed into Navajo! – here

***UPDATE*** The Navajo language version is now available for purchase on DVD via Fox Connect, for a limited time only.

tiny-death-star

Tired of “Angry Birds: Star Wars” yet? Well, there’s a new Star Wars game headed for your mobile device. The game is called “Star Wars: Tiny Tower Death Star” and it is based on the Disney Interactive 8-bit animation game, “Tiny Tower.”

In this version of the game, players will be able to help Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine build a new Death Star. They will also be able to interact with other iconic characters from the Star Wars universe while they build businesses on the notorious space station.

LucasArts, the gaming arm of LucasFilm, and Disney Mobile teamed up with NimbleBit to develop the game for mobile platforms. The release date has not been announced yet.

J.J. Abrams Talks Star Wars on PBS

'Star Trek' Photocall

J.J. Abrams recently made on appearance on The Tavis Smiley Show on PBS, and he discussed a few things pertaining to Star Wars.

First up, he talked about his first meeting with Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy. His original intent was to say no to any involvement with Episode VII, but he was so intrigued by that meeting that he couldn’t refuse. Who can blame him? Abrams is a life-long Star Wars fan and, after all was said, the idea of being an active participant was ultimately irresistible:

“It’s that thing that you feel. It’s like casting a role in a movie or a show. More importantly, by quite a bit, meeting the person you know you should be with for the rest of your life. You could talk about it forever and try to quantify what the qualities are, but the truth is when you walk into that restaurant and you see that person, it just hits you and you know. It’s hard to know exactly what those qualities are.

As for concerns that Disney might “Disneyfy” Star Wars… Well, he makes it clear that Disney is aware of those fears and “they don’t want that at all, that’s the last thing they want.”

George Lucas is Determined to Build His Museum

139924-george-lucas

Fans of ‘Star Wars’ creator George Lucas are probably aware of the fact that he’s been wanting to build a museum dedicated to popular culture, illustration, and the digital arts for some time. He moved his base of operations to the Presidio, San Francisco’s national park, in 2005 apparently with the understanding that he would be allowed to build his Cultural Arts Museum at that location, but the road has been slow going.

The Presidio Trust, the organization that runs the Presidio park, obviously feels that no such assurances were made to Lucas regarding his plans to build the museum. Rather, they initiated a contest in which bidders are able to submit proposals for museums. Currently, there are three bidders – one being George Lucas. He had recently stated that he would take his museum proposal to Chicago, claiming the support of Mayor Rahm Emmanuel. Chicago has become a second home to Lucas since his marriage to local businesswoman Mellody Hobson this past June.

In late September, however, he made an appearance at a Presidio Trust meeting and renewed his appeal….

The Path That Led Me Here: Melinda’s First Blog Post!

Melinda's Brew

Hello there!

Right about now I feel like Ben Kenobi when he came upon R2D2 (and Luke Skywalker, of course, but it was R2 to whom Ben was speaking) in one of the canyons of the Jundland Wastes. It was the Force … or Destiny … Happenchance … or just good ol’ plain Luck. However you choose to look at it, separate beings were thrown together, and their lives never would be the same again.

That could be said about most – maybe all of us – in the Galaxy of Star Wars Fandom. The Force … Destiny … Happenchance … good ol’ plain Luck brought us together. Our association began due to a common interest in a little space fantasy that burst on the scene back in 1977. Sometimes, when I’m just sitting back, relaxing, just letting my mind wander, I start thinking about Star Wars and what it has brought into my life. I am utterly amazed!
