So often, Star Wars and education go hand-in-hand (just ask Coffee With Kenobi co-host and teacher Dan Z!). It’s only natural to merge appreciation for teachers — and other mentors — with the upcoming May the 4th festivities. That’s exactly what the #TeachMeYouDid Challenge seeks to accomplish.

Find out all about it below:

WHAT IS #TEACHMEYOUDID
Is a culture-bending, love-wielding, awesomeness-amplifying campaign that lifts up stories of amazing mentors and teachers who have unlocked our potential. #TeachMeYouDid fuses the power of May the 4th–a Star Wars fan holiday–with Teacher Appreciation Week to build positive energy and momentum. This is an invitation for everyone to tell the story about a teacher or mentor in their lives who woke the Force up in them.
It’s that simple.

PARTICIPATE WANT TO?
Simple instructions for how to participate
1. FIND YOUR VERY OWN JEDI MASTER
Think of someone who taught you, inspired you, awoke the Force within you.
2. BE CREATIVE!
Write a note, record a video, record an audio clip, draw something, create something to thank them for what they did for you.
3. SPREAD THE WORD
Post this online to Facebook or Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr or whatever social media you use and include the hashtag #TeachMeYouDid.
4. SHARE THE LOVE
If you can, tag your teacher in the post to make sure they see it.
5. INVITE THEM TO THE LIGHT SIDE OF THE FORCE!
Finally, challenge your friends to join in.

What an awesome idea! Teaching truly is one of the greatest — and most rewarding — professions out there. To inspire … to pass on what one has learned … to give a necessary leg up — all without the need for a “thank you”, or any kind of acknowledgement (usually). This is just one of many perfect ways to say “thank you.” 🙂 You have inspired me to do likewise. 🙂
