From Princess Leia marshaling her friends and comrades to Darth Vader unleashing his dark fury, February’s chill is likely to be offset by the heat from Marvel’s Star Wars comics amid the days and nights of winter’s cold.
The month begins Feb. 3 with the release of Obi-Wan and Anakin #2. Written by Charles Soule and drawn by Marco Checchetto (whose work on Shattered Empire drew critical and popular acclaim), the second issue of the five-issue mini-series finds the master and padawan stranded on a strange world with oddly primitive technology, natives who are dangerous and looming question: Why were we sent here.
In Darth Vader #17, out Feb. 10, writer Kieron Gillen and artist Salvador Larroca ask: Would you rather follow the Dark Lord into battle or have to face him instead? The issue features a cover by Kaare Andrews.
Feb. 17 sees the release of Star Wars #16, with story by Jason Aaron and art by Leinil Yu. The variant cover by Terry and Rachel Dodson features Princess Leia, while the story focuses on the Rebels’ journey to a prison base, an important prisoner in tow from the fallout of the six-issue Vader Down storyline. There’s just one problem, they’re not the only ones keeping tabs on the detainees.
On Feb. 24, readers of Kanan #11 will experience the conclusion of Padawan Caleb Dume’s first fight in the Clone Wars, including a menacing appearance by Separatist military mastermind Gen. Grievous.
Finally, on Jan. 25, you can order the Marvel omnibus edition that collects all of the publisher Droids and Ewoks comics from the 1980s. Star Wars: Droids & Ewoks is written by David Manak and George Caragonne and drawn by Warren Kremer, John Romita Sr., Mary Wilshre and Ernie Colon. The 536-page tome collects Ewoks #1-14, Droids #1-8 and the Ewoks UK Annual from 1989. It will retail for a cool $100 and feature two covers.
Matt Moore has been perpetrating journalism since 1985, reveling in Star Wars since 1977 and reading comics since 1974.
