Much has been said about George Lucas and the Hero’s Journey. The Caffeinated Collector: Episode 35 – Coming Back For More, Part 2. Which Is Actually Part 5…

Hi folks! It’s that time again. We all know I’m a fan of Memory Lane, so here’s another round of rumination for you. As I continue my exploration of what keeps me coming back to each Star Wars film individually, I’m taking a look at The Empire Strikes Back this month. As much as I talked about nostalgia last time, the second film in the saga may hold even more warm, fuzzy thoughts. It is the first movie I remember seeing in a movie theater. My brother took me to see it. I’ve mentioned before how funny I thought “Laugh it up, fuzzball” was to me at the time, so I won’t go into that again, but suffice it to say I laughed so much that my brother got annoyed. I’ve struggled with how much nostalgia should play a role in these discussions, and I think I’ve come to a conclusion.

Melinda’s Brew: The Thrill of Victory…

Melinda's Brew

You know where, in The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda encourages Luke: “Do. Or do not. There is no try.”? A lot of Star Wars fans take exception to Yoda’s lesson. They think that Yoda is wrong in making such a statement to Luke, our fledgling Jedi-in-Training. These fans criticize Yoda because they believe he is not validating the significance of the ol’ college try. They argue that trying counts for a lot. I can see their reasoning.

40 Years of Star Wars Memories: Boba Fett and the Special Editions

Favorite Memories of Star Wars: The Special Editions and Boba Fett

The 40th anniversary of Star Wars dominated Star Wars Celebration Orlando this month. In fact, a celebration of 40 years kicked off the convention. George Lucas, Warwick Davis, Mark Hamill, Hayden Christensen, Harrison Ford and many others recounted the history of Star Wars from 1977 to the present and began the conversation from the Galaxy Stage. Naturally, this lead to many conversations about the best and favorite Star Wars moments from the past 40 years. One of my most favorite moments was the release of the Star Wars: Special Editions. I’m certain this is a controversial pick. Many fans hate the changes made to the classic movies. However, I have many reasons for celebrating the 20th anniversary of the special editions. For now, I’ll focus on two, which include a personal reason and a content addition.

Melinda’s Brew: What Are Those Dreams Made Of?

Melinda's Brew

Have you ever found yourself in a particular place or situation, going about your business, and suddenly pulled yourself up short, coming to the conclusion that you have experienced that exact place or situation before – knowing as sure as you’re standing there that you never have been in that place or situation? I have found myself in such situations – more often than I care to admit – and, at the very least, I find them unsettling. An eerie feeling comes over me, and while I do my best to shake off such unwelcome sensations, I can’t help but consider George Lucas was on to something when he worked Force dreams into the Jedi’s abilities. Dreams – they’re pretty powerful stuff!
