For Fans Jim Mello and Alex Ray, Their ‘A Star Wars Comic’ Promises New Tales, Intrigue and More Every Month

Among the startling delights of Rogue One: Star Wars Story were the new characters, nearly all of whom perished by the film’s end. Of intriguing interest was Edrio and Benthic Two Tubes, the Tognaths who were among the trusted members of Saw Gerrera’s band of Rebels on Jedha.

While their time on screen was short, it was impressive, but the screenplay allowed for scant detail about the egg mates’ origins, thinking and devotion to the Rebellion.

That’s changed, thanks not to just the assorted books, from the official novel adapting the film or the excellent Rogue One: A Visual Guide.

For Jim Mello and Alex Ray, it wasn’t enough. The pair were so intrigued by Benthic Two Tubes that they seized upon the idea of a six-page comic about the Tognath and, in the process, have created a fan-made ode to not just the character, but to Star Wars, too.

Force And Faith: Jyn and the Woman of Hope

The joy of being a Star Wars fan knows no bounds.  To be treated to the latest epic adventure just days before the celebration of Christmas is like an embarrassment of riches!  Let’s take a short spoiler-free look at Rogue One, and see what we can draw out of it.

StarWars.com offers this as a synopsis of the movie: “In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction.”  While this is an ensemble cast, the story has an iconic heroine in Jyn Erso.  Through her, the story is moved, the task is completed (don’t be surprised, since we have known since 1977) and all of the soldiers aboard Rogue One find their fulfillment.  That is all I will say, in case you haven’t seen it yet.  But seriously, why are you reading my ramblings if you haven’t seen the move yet?  Put this down!  Run to the theater!  Then, come back and finish up here.

The scourge of the Empire has enslaved millions and oppressed the rest.  Their power is supported by Death Star I as it menaces the galaxy.  Only Jyn can get her hands on the plans and deliver them to the Rebel Alliance.  Her efforts are the beginning of the hope-filled future for the Rebellion.  The sinister Sith-inspired scum are coming upon their crushing calamity. Loyalty: The Underrated Theme of Star Wars

ROTJ_GroupAs part of their five questions for new guests to Coffee with Kenobi, Dan and Cory ask their guests “what themes or messages from Star Wars resonate with you?” I’ve always been intrigued by the answers that guests have given. Of all the questions they ask, that is probably the one I have considered the most. Well, it comes after favorite Star Wars film and favorite character, but third place isn’t bad. Right? I digress. A recent episode of Coffee with Kenobi had me pondering the themes and messages from Star Wars again. I realized that perhaps one of the more underrated themes from the movies is “loyalty.”

Hiding in Plain Sight

Becca's Chava Chat

“Obi-Wan was wise to hide her from me.” – Darth Vader

Note: The Following Features Heavy Speculation and Possible Spoilers:

I have often thought about the similarities between Chancellor Palpatine and Princess Leia’s secret identities.  Let’s face it … it’s no real conspiracy that both were hidden in plain sight and under very comparable circumstances; in a manner of speaking of course. If the entire senate knew that their leader was indeed a Sith Lord his reign would’ve ended much sooner than it did, in fact, probably instantaneously. No different could have been said about Leia. If Senator Bail Organa had made Leia’s birth name public, it would’ve raised more than an eyebrow or two.
