As Maz Kanata so eloquently stated, the light – it’s always been there, so has Star Wars. For as long as I can remember, Star Wars, like the light or the force, has had a hand in guiding and shaping my life. And thankfully, up to this very day, it still does. Read more
By now, we have seen at least five or six different versions or trailers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the countdown to the actual ‘premier day,’ is less than a month away! To say that I’m excited, well, that’s more of an understatement at best.
… “Sure you’re up for this?”– Han Solo, Star Wars: The Force Awakens
That’s a good question. Am I? Oh, I’m sure I’m not alone on this one. Be honest, who else felt as if Han was directing this towards the viewer, us, not just Finn? And yes, anyone who has a blog for a website or a podcast about Star Wars has already discussed or analyzed the topic on ‘how to prepare’ for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but that’s not what this next edition of ‘Becca’s Chava Chat’ is about.
THE DHARMA OF STAR WARS
By Matthew Bortolin
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away … Yoda was a Zen Master?
The Dharma is the Buddhist tutelage that guides you throughout the truisms of life’s realisms. Basically, it’s a compass that directs you along the path towards the truth of reality, in other words, real life.
Now combine that belief with George Lucas’s stories of the Hero’s Journey from Star Wars and ascend, all over again, across the stars of a galaxy far, far away in a whole new light. An enriching and enlightening take on the holy saga, from A New Hope and through the darkness of Revenge of the Sith; a periscope view from a spiritual standpoint.
Just shy of a day and a half, approximately 34 hours time, we had a plethora of new Star Wars imagery to explode our wildest of geeked-out imaginations. As if the Official Movie Poster reveal wasn’t enough, we now have words, actual phrases, to pair with our newest Star Wars characters. Those snippets of dialogue are momentous to every Star Wars fan worldwide. In fact, the impact they’ve made in just this short amount of time has been a fan-moment in the making, for over thirty-some years. And yes, the force is indeed, calling …
Oh really? Somehow I doubt that and honestly, always have. To say something, such as a name, or someone, no longer has any meaning in one’s life, is a flat-out lie. Point blank, you’re in a state of personal denial. Am I judging you or, in this case, Darth Vader? No, I’m simply unearthing the truth, or as Luke clearly stated:
“It is the name of your true self. You’ve only forgotten.”
Throughout most of the Star Wars saga, we see a lineage of Skywalker descent make choices based on compromise, morals, and their life experiences — in turn, forging a personal perspective or point of view. One’s choices or decisions in life don’t make them right or wrong, per se, rather a sense of righteousness or justification for their own actions. Again, at the time, it may seem like the right thing to do, but onlookers or outsiders may not see it as such. In fact, such perception of oneself would never be considered as a bad person, but perhaps, making a bad decision. In other words, no one ever thinks of themselves as evil.
How many times have we heard that ‘three’s a charm?’ Most likely, more than you can count. Even in advertisement, for example: Easy, Breezy, and Beautiful – CoverGirl. Is it sheer luck? Or is it pure brilliance? As someone who plays with words on a regular basis, not so much in the blogging format, but from a titling perspective, three usually is the magic combination.
JUST … IMAGES REALLY, FEELINGS …
If you were to ask me what I remember about Saturday, April 18th 2015, my answer would be: “Just … images really, feelings.” And yet, it’s a day that I’ll never forget.
No, this isn’t going to be a symbolic blog or even anything remotely close. Nor will it be, creatively or critically, thought-provoking. What it will be, is an open-window passageway, or reflection, on my personal experiences of that day; a Rebels reconnection.
Of course, by the time you read this post, some of you will have already seen the premiere of Star Wars Rebels: “The Siege of Lothal,” but back then, on April 18th, that was not the case. In fact, I can’t even put into words, the amount of excitement and gratefulness that I still have, for all of those responsible in giving me such an awesome opportunity and a sea full of shoaling emotional memories. Hence the phrase, “just … images really, feelings.”
Femininity Behind The Moon
It’s no secret that the Star Wars saga is intricately laced with symbolism and mythology throughout its entirety. In fact, the amount of its ambiguity is so immense that the conversations continue to grow and flourish up until this very day, some thirty-eight years after it all began.
One of the ongoing topics for discussion is the lack of women that are represented or portrayed within the storyline, that, and the lack of a storyline within the Prequels. Perhaps, those that feel so strongly about both accusations are going about it all wrong …
“Your eyes can deceive you, don’t trust them. Stretch out with your feelings.” – Ben
In order to reach the means of an end, you must first start at the beginning. As is the way of things, the way of life. At some point we must come full circle.
Judging by my own life experiences, I feel that we reach certain crossroads multiple times and even find ourselves repeating many similar scenarios with various outcomes, only to start the cycle all over again. Life is full of trials and tribulations that we must all face, no matter what the end result turns out to be. In other words, an after effect is inevitable. With every choice, there is a consequence and that, in itself, is a burden we all bare. Although, some conclusions are positively momentous and could bring about a total ‘life changer’ or a 180, if you will. A ‘life changing’ experience or a ‘game changer’ … yeah, I’d say I know a little something about that.
