Mickey’s Jedi Blend: This Is Not The Filler You’re Looking For

Yes, I’m back! I know it has been a while since I have blogged, but between life wanting to turn everything upside down, hosting Rebels Reactions and my regular 9 to 5, the time has eluded me no matter how hard I have tried. Now after all these months I can’t let things slide anymore.

This month’s topic is something I hit on during a recent episode of Rebels Reactions. It is something I have been guilty of in the past, and that is classifying the significance of each episode as it pertains to the saga overall. Some episodes have a profound impact and are praised highly on podcasts and social media alike. Others, where the value isn’t immediately evident, get dismissed as “filler” episodes.

Since I have started hosting Rebels Reactions and analyzing each episode as they come out, plus after seeing Rogue One, I reached a conclusion: there is no such thing as a “filler” episode in Star Wars.

I will go ahead and advise you that if you haven’t seen Rogue One, don’t read any further unless you want spoilers.

Mickey’s Jedi Blend: Memories of Star Wars Weekends

Mickey's Jedi Blend

I have to admit, this is the quietest and slowest end of May and soon-to-be beginning of June that I have experienced in years. Sure, I’m still working 40+ hours a week, my oldest daughter has more extracurricular activities this year than ever before, and my parents are visiting, but it’s not the same. My weekends are slow and duller than they have been in years past.

Mickey’s Jedi Blend: Loss and The Force Awakens

Mickey's Jedi Blend

I first off want to apologize for my absence from all forms of social media and some delays in Rebels Reactions releases. The last two weeks have been extremely crazy for me and culminated in the laying to rest of a friend and co-worker today. Outside of work and home, no one has really known whats been going on as I sat and reevaluated my life, where I am, where I could be, the decisions made, and where to go from here. I’m not the best at talking my feelings out, my wife can attest to that. This is my only outsource for the moment. This is how I can pay my respects and come to grips with the reality of the situation and move on with my life.

Mickey’s Jedi Blend: State of the Saga

Mickey's Jedi Blend

It’s been a little over three years since the bombshell news broke of the maker George Lucas selling Lucasfilm to Disney for a whopping $4.4 billion. This news sent ripples through not only the business and entertainment world, but shot through the hearts of fans everywhere. George Lucas, the creator, the innovator, the renaissance man himself, was walking away from his empire, his creation, his baby.

Fans everywhere were left either rejoicing, upset, but all were in shock of the deal. Questions began flying about: What’s next? What’s to become of Star Wars? Will it be “Disneyfied?”

Mickey’s Jedi Blend: It’s Not Star Wars Without An Astromech

Mickey's Jedi Blend

Take a second and think:

How would Padme, Qui-Gon, and my all-time favorite Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi survive if an astromech hadn’t fixed the hyperdrive in The Phantom Menace?

In A New Hope, what would Leia have done with the Death Star plans if she didn’t have R2-D2?

Leia with R2-D2

How would Luke have gotten away from Uncle Owen’s moisture farm if not for the “malfunctioning” R2?

And how would the Millennium Falcon have escaped Vader’s super star destroyer in The Empire Strikes Back if not for R2 talking to a strange computer.

How would the rescue of Han worked out if R2 wasn’t there to hide Luke’s newly built lightsaber in The Return of the Jedi?

Mickey’s Jedi Blend: Star Wars Uprising… My Gaming Fix

Mickey's Jedi Blend

So lets start this off by stating the following: I am not a gamer. I never have been and probably never will be. My XBox and Playstation haven’t been turned on in several years. My Wii U is the only system in use, primarily for playing games like bowling or Toy Story Mania with my daughters and wife. All of the games I do play regularly are on mobile devices now. From games like Clash of Clans to Words With Friends, I have kept myself quite entertained, yet I always felt something was missing. The Star Wars element of my gaming was missing.

Mickey’s Jedi Blend: Star Wars Weekends, My Thoughts…

Mickey's Jedi Blend

So it’s been a little over a month since Disney wrapped up week five of Star Wars Weekends. Being there all five weeks was exhausting, but quite rewarding. I know this particular blog is a little later than I wanted, but to give you some insight, in the middle of the weekends we discovered we were having to move from our home of 4 years by the end of June. Not only was the move unexpected, my family and I had nowhere to go. Fortunately the doors we needed opened and we found a place to go, but it was about 1200 square feet smaller.  I have to throw a special shout out to my best friend Robbie, without him, that move would have been impossible to have completed. Thank you buddy, we make a better team than Han and Chewie.

Now down to business. Star Wars Weekends 2015.
